From the time I started planning parties (5th gr) I realized people are silly and actually care who else is going. Nevermind honoring the host(ess) who's throwing out the invite...Blah. I used to reply to the 'who's coming? question with this, "I'm comin'. You interested or not?"

I always use Evites and keep the guest list public. I don't usually decide where I am going based on other people though, if I like the person throwing it and am free, I'm there! With a hostess gift people!
