A young man shopping in a supermarket noticed a little old lady following him around. If he stopped, she stopped. Furthermore she kept staring at him.

She finally overtook him at the checkout, and she turned to him and said, "I hope I haven't made you feel ill at ease; it's just that you look so much like my late son."

He answered, "That's okay."

"I know it's silly, but if you'd call out 'Good bye, Mom' as I leave the store, it would make me feel so happy."

She then went through the checkout, and as she was on her way out of the store, the man called out, "Goodbye, Mom."

The little old lady waved and smiled back at him..

Pleased that he had brought a little sunshine into someone's day, he went to pay for his groceries.

"That comes to $121.85," said the clerk.

"How come so much? I only bought 5 items."

The clerk replied, "Yeah, but your mother said you'd be paying for her things, too."

Conversations with long lost friends.

I received a phone call early this morning.  AS soon as the phone rang, I knew it was a friend from a different time zone.  It was 8am here.  It was 9am where she was.  Needless to say, as soon as I picked up the phone.  We got right to business.  She had a few things to run past me and wanted my input about it.

She knows that I am that friend that will NOT sugar coat or tell you what you want to hear.  I love that we don't speak all of the time but, when we do, we get right into it.  After our conversation, we bid farewell until the next time and I sat on the sofa finishing my now cold cup of coffee with a smile on my face knowing that I have friends from all over that can always call on me and I can do the same.  It's time to get back to basics and take friendships back to where they used to be.  Face to Face or conversations.

I love the technology of it all but, nothing beats hearing a familiar voice and getting right down to it while the house is still quiet.  ONce my daughter woke up, it was back to reality and all was well in the world again. I love Mondays.

What about you?  Do you have any friends that you don't speak with on a regular basis but, when you do, you get right down to the point? :)

The Baking Kick!

I have been on a serious baking kick.  I find myself thinking of new ways to bake items and last night I decided to bake bread.  Bananas, Cranberries and Walnuts.  OH yes baby. Coffee Morning with Family and Friends will be a hit on the block!

Ok, what is up with people saying what people (on the extreme coupon show and more) SHOULD do with their stockpile(s)?  I say it's THEIR business and THEIR prerogative to do with it what they want to do with it.  Come one now, they are the ones that put all of that work into getting all of that crap to cram it into their homes or garages or whatever.  Let them do with it what they please!  IF they want to donate, hoard, or do whatever they want to do with it, then that's ON THEM!  I wish someone would try to tell me what I SHOULD do with my stockpile. Not that I have one but, if I were to get a stockpile of crap, that's MY BUSINESS!  I need you to back up off me already.

Holding Babies will get you pregnant! Say What?

The last time I held a newborn, I ended up pregnant.  Thank the LORD in heaven my baby making days are OVER!  She's the sweetest baby.  She slept the entire time in my arms and I loved every minute of it!  AWWWWWWWWW :)

My daughter (visiting from California) asked the manager if she may take home one of the Lambert's cups as a souvenir.

The manager (Cheryl) said, I can do you one better and brought our daughter a BRAND NEW - plastic cup! Wow!!!!!!! :).

What a nice treat!  She told Danyelle she would LOVE for her to represent Lambert's in Cali!

LOVE IT!!!!

Learning an instrument requires self-discipline, learned through chores.

Showing up when you don't feel like it is required many places in life, like work, school, relationships, exercise, and learning a new skill. Self-discipline is pretty much essential.
A longitudinal study -- meaning the subjects were followed up on over a long period of 20 years -- showed that the young people who did chores when they were 4 years old did better later than peers in the same study who had no chores, according to Dr. Marty Rossmann, professor emeritus of the University of Minnesota.
The kids don't have to get up at dawn to milk the cows, but such discipline instills a life-long ability to make good decisions, according to an in-depth study done on children from age 3 until their mid-20s.
Kids learn responsibility, competence, self-reliance and self-worth that sticks for life, says Dr. Rossmann. She found the young adults who had done chores were better adjusted and more successful than non-chore-doing peers in the study.
This kind of long-term research and correlations are hard to come by in psychology. The research even more convincing because the original data by Diana Baumrind analyzed parenting styles -- authoritarian, permissive and authoritative. So the research contained no biases about chores and long-term success in life.
The real gem in this study is that the earlier the kids start doing chores, the more it is pricelessly embedded in their psyche. My kids started pushing laundry into the dryer and shoving around a mop before they could talk. Next, they emptied wastebaskets from the bedrooms, and sorted the silverware from the dishwasher -- an excellent pre-reading skill of learning to distinguish differences. Their chores got more complex a they got older.
Yes, it's easier to do the chores yourself. Yes, it will get done faster and better if you do it. Yes, you're hurting your kids in the long run if you do everything for them. It creates a monster called entitlement.

Danyelle is HERE!  She's visiting us from California and we are thoroughly enjoying her visit.  I haven't figured out a way to get her to just MOVE BACK HOME!  WHHHHHAAAAAA!!! Sweet Potato Pie-Easy as Pie :)

Ingredients

• 1 (1 pound) sweet potato
• 1/2 cup butter, softened
• 1 cup white sugar
• 1/2 cup milk
• 2 eggs
• 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
• 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust

Directions

1. Boil sweet potato whole in skin for 40 to 50 minutes, or until done. Run cold water over the sweet potato, and remove the skin.
2. Break apart sweet potato in a bowl. Add butter, and mix well with mixer. Stir in sugar, milk, eggs, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla. Beat on medium speed until mixture is smooth. Pour filling into an unbaked pie crust.
3. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 55 to 60 minutes, or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Pie will puff up like a souffle, and then will sink down as it cools.

We made bags of water and snacks to give to the homeless on Easter. Gracen snuck cookies out of the box and I caught her red handed! She dropped the bag and cookies and ran off! LOL
