Wake up Everybody

Gracen wakes up smiling and cooing.  When she hears us moving around, she eagerly stands up, giggles and beats on the crib waiting patiently for someone to come and get her.   I am dreading the day when she can get out of the crib on her own.

DJ on the other hand needs a little more coaxing. I start with turning on the radio, lights and opening the blinds. Pulling back the covers and tickling him until he's in a good mood to get up. This is why if we're going somewhere, I have to go through a process with him OR the day will get off to a rocky start.

My good friend James posted on his FB that he wakes up his kids in a Scooby Doo voice and they love it. I tried it the next morning and it worked like a charm. DJ loved it and now looks forward to the funny voices I make when waking him up. Thanks James for the tip. It takes a village!

Question: What are your kid(s) temperament when they wake up in the morning?

HE is a SHE? Really?

I am not sure if I am particularly sensitive about this topic or what but, recently I have encountered a few situations that have made me stop short in my steps.

It seems that most people tend to do a double take to confirm her gender.  I can be strolling in the market and someone will pass by and say oh he's so cute, oops I meant she's so cute.  No problem.  I should be thrilled someone even took the time to greet us I suppose.

What I find so interesting about these situations, I don't make it a point to even show my baby off.  She's in the stroller, we're on a mission to get things done and wouldn't you know, someone has to stop or slow us down.  No problem.  She's cute.  I know this.  Haha!!!

The lady at the market that told me babies doesn't need shoes.  No problem.  Keep it moving.
When she wears blue, she's becomes a HE's so cute.  No problem.  Keep it moving.

The most recent funniest thing that happened last week.  I was signing in baby girl at the church nursery.  Told the worker her name and she said, Gracen?  Isn't that a boy's name?  I mean really how do you respond to that.

Needless to say, I did a quick google search HERE when I got home and wouldn't you know?  It is indeed a boy's name.  You have admit the COMMENTS on the post is HILARIOUS.  It's a GOOD thing we came up with the name the night she was born OR these posts might have swayed our decision.  NOT!

Start Sarcasm

SHAME on us for giving our baby GIRL a BOY's name.

Dress her in pink every single day for fear of gender confusion or else!

End Sarcasm.

Honestly, She wasn't being rude.  She just wanted to let me know I gave my GIRL a BOY's name I suppose.  *sigh*

Quick Glance at her.  Boy or Girl?

I can see how someone might think Boy because she's wearing blue.  Whatever!

I knew we should have named her Sha Quay-Quay.

The occasion........after it's missed.
The time.........after it's gone.
Knock, Knock I knocked at heaven's door this morning. God asked me...'My child, what can I do for you?' And I said, 'Father, please protect and bless the person reading this message.' God smiled and answered...'Request granted'.If you believe, send this to seven people. By doing this, you have succeeded in praying for 7 people today.'Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.'THIS IS PRETTY NEAT, 93% won't forward this i hope u r part of the 7% that will :) remember u r already having a blessed day HE gave u another day of life.HE'S ABLE!

COUPLES PLACE™ presented by K-Y® Brand Blog Tour

If you're a regular reader of my blog, you know how serious we are about  finding time to spend with your mate and DATE NIGHTS.  Please know that no matter how many children, jobs or other obligations you have in your married life, DATE NIGHTS are a must.  It's the glue that will help with keeping your relationship desirable.

When I was offered the chance to participate in the COUPLES PLACE™ presented by K-Y® Brand blog Tour, I jumped at the chance to encourage my readers to do their best to make time for their mate.  If you're already doing it, hopefully you will share in the comments how important spending time with your mate is to your marriage.

We are NOT a perfect couple and don't have all the answers but, what we have found is taking time to spend ALONE time without the kids has helped us to recharge, reconnect and appreciate this journey we have been on for over 20 years.

Remember, you don't have to leave the house to spend a little quality time with the one you love.  My number ONE suggestion on how to find a little bit of ALONE time with your spouse is REGULAR and CONSISTENT bedtimes for your children.  We are a work in progress in this department but, you best believe we strive as much as possible to hit the bedtime target for our children on a consistent basis.

We have a tag team system which has been working so much better now that we are all under the same roof and have been settled in our home for a few months now.

The main goal is to put the kids to bed in anticipation of knowing that you'll be spending some quality time with your spouse.  Right?  Right.

If you find that you're not getting any quality alone time with your partner, sit down and try to come up with a few ways to make it happen.  If you don't have any kids, there's NO excuse to not go out on a date at least 3 times a week.  (hey, that would be a dream of mine if I was childless)..

To find out more information about maintaining a healthy relationship and to learn more about ways other couples are finding ways to maintain a balance, K-Y Couples Place has created a website HERE to enter the contest to be selected as "America's Top Couple".

Question from the website: What makes your relationship special? Let us know and enter for a chance to win the title of AMERICA’S TOP COUPLE™. Learn how you and your partner could win a trip to New York City and be featured in a national magazine.

Don't worry, if you're already finding ways to spend ALONE time together as a couple, you're already America's Top Couple.  As a bonus, go on over to the website HERE enter the contest for a chance to win!

Remember, the kids are an addition to your marriage and should never be the main focus that takes away from time spent with your spouse.  Good Luck and have fun getting to know your spouse all over again.

Question(s):

What makes your relationship special?

What are some ways you are finding ways to spend ALONE time with your spouse?
What obstacles are you encountering that has been deterring this from happening?
Do you have any suggestions on ways to incorporate date nights and special times together with your spouse?

Neosporin Lip Health 3-Day Challenge blog tour!

The weather here in Florida is very unpredictable and I can't stand ashy, dry lips. You've read my posts about my son's lips and how I constantly moisturize his face and lips to avoid the dry and ashy look.  I have dry hands and lips and was very excited when I was asked to participate in the Neosporin Lip Health 3-Day Challenge.

I recently took the Neosporin Lip Health 3-Day Challenge Blog Tour sponsored by MomCentral and was quite pleased the product didn't have the medicine smell.

You know what I am talking about. Products that offer lip therapy healing usually will smell like menthol or have a loud medicine odor. This wasn't the case at all with the the Neosporin Overnight Renewal Therapy cream OR the Neosporin Daily Hydration Therapy with SPF 30 lip balm.

If you are interested in purchasing* and trying this product for the 3-day Challenge, Click HERE for a coupon and Click HERE  for a listing of stores you can purchase this product from.

*Retail Price for each product: $4.99 and up.  The best part, both products fit in your purse!

If you decide to take the 3 day challenge, please come back to let us know about your experience.

Preschoolers that cook

DJ learned the basics of cleaning, seasoning and breading chicken breast strips this weekend.    Daddy put them in the oven and removed them when done.  We are not ready for him to handle the hot stove yet.  He thinks he's ready.  Baby Steps.  Baby Steps.

The food turned out really delicious and he was so proud of himself.  He kept asking if we liked the food.  I should have turned the tables on him (Remember THIS) but, decided against it and just said YES they are DELICIOUS!

Chicken Strips, Garden Salad with Ranch Dressing!

Blanket Sleeper Sales Score

My son LOVES footed pajamas. He had 1 pair, if given the chance, he will wear them every single day. There's a hole in the left toe and he insisted on wearing those reggedy pajamas. It's not his only pair but, he has a serious fondness for these and I had all I could stand. I searched high and low for new ones and kept hitting snags. Either the pajamas were too expensive or out of his size. Gavin's mommy even went on a hunt to get these for DJ to no avail. This past weekend, we spent the day in Alabama shopping and eating! The weather was great and the perfect day. It dawned on me to go to Carter's and WOOOOHOOO, I hit the jackpot. Footed Pajamas in sizes up to 7 were on sale $5.99 with an extra 20% off. I almost bought the entire rack but, my husband was there huffing and puffing so I decided to get 3 pair. DJ was so excited. It was a good day! There's something about finding a great deal. The rush is the best feeling.
Question: have you found any great deals online lately! If so, please share.

Never turn your back on a baby

She is a baby on the move!  I was on the phone with my mother in law and had to hang up so I could get this shot (hey, take the picture then save the baby) Gotta Love it.

Fido and Food

This woman, in the picture above, supports a petition to bring her big A dog(s) to dine with her at the outdoor restaurants in our local area. Can you imagine sitting down to have a delicious meal only to look across the tables to see THIS? My question is, why pass an ordinance to allow just dogs? What about cats, gerbils and snakes? Bring the whole jungle while we're at it! *rolls eyes and sucks teeth*

I read two articles about this topic and I agree with HIM and HER.

The quote at the end of the article sums up my thoughts.
"I am not a pet person and personally am repulsed by the sight and proximity of a dog in an eating establishment, even limited to an outdoor area."

Funny thing is, no matter what we think, if the law is passed, then we'll have to make a decision on whether or not to boycott the places. Hah.

Car Seat Struggles

Gracen is showing resistance to her carseat. She's only 8 months.  When I put her in, she pushes up.
The AAP recommends harnessing your kids for a long time. We have a LONG LONG LONG way to go.  Dear Gracen, please don't fight it.  This is for your own safety.  Love, Mom.

Free gift with a twist.

I received this gift certificate in the mail.  It was addressed to the former residents OR current residents.  Well, since I am the current resident, it's ALL MINE!  But, what if it were a true gift certificate that didn't require a purchase?  Would I feel so free to keep it then?  Ugh, decisions, decisions.  What would YOU do?

(RE-POST) Creating Memories for our Children.

Originally posted: October 19,2007

I remember one of my favorite pastors of all time, saying that as parents we are responsible for the memories we are creating for our children. He asked the group if they could think of a negative time in their childhood that's still very painful to even think of it.

The hands flew up in the air. Then he asked, "By a show of hands, how many of you can think of a very exciting time in your childhood that you wish you could re-live again" Fewer hands went up. Wow. What a very interesting moment. There were MORE hands that went up about the painful times in our childhoods compared to the happy times.

He went on to say, Whether the memories are negative or positive they are memories. What memories are we creating for our children? Just because we had negative childhoods doesn't mean we have to continue down that path with our children. God gave us our children as blessings or second chances to re-direct the paths of the memory lanes we create.

Of course I didn't quote the sermon word for word. It was a few years ago and my mommy brain has taken over but, I've summed it up best way I could remember.

In closing...This has been on my mind and I wanted to share with you. What memories are we creating for our families? Does the negative outweigh the positive? Ask your children what they love or what they don't love most about being a member of your family. You'd be surprised at the answers. Just food for thought.

Question: What positive memories, events and experiences are you creating for your children?

Suicide affects EVERYONE.

On January 12th,  my daddy would have turned 62.

At the age of 29, when I was 7 years old, he decided to take his own life.

Now that I am turning 40, I still have so many unanswered questions.

To my daddy, I miss and wish you were here.

New Year's Resolution Tips and Sweepstakes from Select Comfort

Hello Tanyetta,

Happy New Year! It is hard to believe that January is almost over. So far I am sticking to my New Year’s resolution of wanting to lose weight (well the working out and sleeping more part, not the eating healthier part). Did you make a resolution this year? If so, I thought I would pass along the below advice on how to keep your New Year’s resolution.

Did you know that millions of Americans make New Year’s resolutions they hope will make them healthier, happier and more productive. Many don’t realize their resolutions can be accomplished in their sleep—literally!

Select Comfort Director of Sleep Innovation and Clinical Research and sleep expert, Pete Bils provides these simple tips about how to get that extra hour of needed sleep …and stick to that resolution.

Make sleep a priority: Put “getting 8 hours of sleep” at the top of your to-do list. Try it for a week and see what difference it makes in how you feel and perform—that might be motivation enough to figure out how to do it full-time! Most of us are so sleep deprived, we’ve forgotten what it’s like to be fully rested and alert.
Establish a bedtime routine: Bedtime isn’t just for kids. Adults should identify a bedtime that gives them 7.5-8 hours of sleep each night, and then stick to it — even on the weekends.
Don’t boil the ocean: If you need to add an extra hour of sleep to get the recommended 8 hours, and can’t– split the difference. Go to bed a half hour earlier and wake a half hour later.
Pay attention to your environment: Get into sleep mode by dimming or turning off all lights in your home one hour before bed time. Get in a dim, quiet room and turn off all screens (TV, phone, video game, etc.). This will help you unwind from the day and make falling asleep easier.
Avoid anti-sleep activities: Don’t eat, exercise or consume caffeine near bedtime.
Check your bed and pillow: Take advantage of innovations in bedding that allow you to customize your comfort, like the Sleep Number bed that is clinically proven to decrease back pain and Sleep Number bedding accessories.

What’s your New Year’s resolution? Please share it with us as a comment on Beds.com or on our Facebook page Must Sleep.

Sleep Number “Winter 2010” Sweepstakes: Go to www.sleepnumber.com/winter and register for a chance to win a personalized bed package worth over $3,600. Ends on Saturday, February 27, 2010

We hope you have a restful New Year!

Regards,

Natasha Woods

Forgiveness

I am a bit annoyed right now. I need to vent. Hey, it's my blog so there!  I just watched this TV show where this lady was physically assaulted.  When did the logic of forgiveness equate to the person that has been offended to be the one that has to forgive?

This is clearly a topic that is bugging me. Someone does something to hurt you. You never did anything to warrant this offense. The person now EXPECTS you to forgive them. Your close family and friends pressuring you to forgive because when you forgive, you free yourself.

I have a long way to go to align with this type of thinking.

You hurt me and now I have to forgive you?

Why??????

4 year old Taylor Pugh with hair in Texas running the show! Maybe or Maybe not?

*Update: Click HERE
Looks like his mother french braided his hair so that he could return to class.
This was all a serious waste of time.

Click HERE

To the parents of Taylor Pugh, please STOP.

These parents are pissing me off now.  The kid has been suspended in school since November because they're trying to make a point?  Take the kid out of school, homeschool him or send him to a school without regulations!  He's in PRE-K for goodness sake.

Oh, on the video the parents said they are just doing what the kid wants.  What the kid wants?  He's 4 and probably still pissing on himself at night.  These parents are a piece of work.

I fault the school board.  STICK by your regulations and have the kid go to another school that doesn't mind this foolishness.   All this unnecessary attention for some hair?  NOPE, has nothing to do with hair.  I am done with this story.

Taylor Pugh is 4.  Do I need to say this again!  Your kid should NEVER be the boss of you!

Adding spice into your life by any means necessary!

My husband does most of the cooking in the house.  Hey!  Give me some slack here.  I am working on my skills in the kitchen.  For the most part, he does and LOVES to do the bulk of the cooking.

When it's time for me to cook, I get overwhelmed with the amount of spices to choose from.
I use this all purpose seasoning and slam the cabinet.

When it's his turn to cook, he's so finessed.

Question:  What is your favorite spice to cook with?

Message from International Medical Corp

HELLO EVERYONE!  I RECEIVED THIS ON EMAIL AND WANTED TO SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH MY READERS!!!

Dear Tanyetta
International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization, founded by volunteer doctors and nurses and dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through relief and development programs. Our emergency response team is in Haiti responding in force and I would like to ask for your help to get the word out to the readers of Days Like These! - Daily Accounts by Tanyetta. There are still thousands of patients seeking treatment of which approximately 80% are in need of surgery and are running out of time - especially with the tremendous aftershocks still devastating this country. The team is treating crush injuries, trauma, substantial wound care, shock and other critical cases with the few available supplies - And they're in it for the long haul. I would love your help spreading the word by blogging or tweeting about IMC's rescue efforts. We've put up a blogger friendly widget here on our site:
http://www.imcworldwide.org/haiti
With the widget it's really easy to let your readers know that donating $10 to help the people of Haiti is as simple as sending a text message of the word "haiti" to 85944. If you have any questions just let me know and I will do my best to help you out. If you are able to post the widget or tweet, I would appreciate it if you could send me the link.
Thanks so much,
Ellie

From the distributor: According to the Environmental Protection Association (EPA), typical household cleaning products and air fresheners are one of the leading contributors to poor indoor air quality. The agency reports that poor indoor air quality can lead to health issues; animals have faster metabolisms and smaller lungs than humans, and not only are they processing these chemicals at a faster rate, they are also breathing them in more rapidly. Because animals are closer to the ground, they are more often in direct contact with these harmful substances.

Clean+Green® are the only eco-friendly aerosol pet cleaning products on the planet. Unlike most other cleaning products that can be harmful, require multiple applications and/or only temporarily mask odors, Clean + Green delivers instant results in a non-toxic, eco-friendly solution. Clean+Green permanently cleans pet stains and eradicates odors. It is safe for pets, people (kids too!), and the planet.

Each Clean+Green product is individually formulated to address a specific odor/stain problem and can be used on carpet and area rugs, wood floors, tile, cement and all fabrics. The products are non-toxic, non-flammable, non-carcinogenic and will not damage the ozone layer – with no harsh chemicals or perfumes, no VOCs and no CFCs.

Disclosure:  One lucky reader will receive 6 products of their choosing.  I will receive 6 products of my choosing from the company.   Since I don't have any pets, I am going to give them to my sweet neighbor who welcomed us to the neighborhood with open arms.  She has a HUGE dog and I am sure she would LOVE to receive this product.
