Babies and Bulemia

Gracen is 5 months now and she likes to put her fingers in her mouth. She usually makes herself gag and throws up all over her clothes. I sure hope I am not raising a bulemic. She better stop playing with me.

Getting a late start.

Getting my day started a little later than usual. Gracen decided at 10:30pm last night, she would rather stay up smiling and blowing bubbles as if it was 2 in the afternoon. I kindly took her into her room, gave her a kiss, put her in the crib, turned on the night light, turned the baby monitor down to 1 and closed the door. She better stop playing. I need my sleep.

Starting your baby on solids.

Preface: Always consult your pediatrician or a trusted source of reliable information BEFORE introducing solids to your baby.

This is very important!-Before introducing solids, try to look out for cues that she's ready to try solids.  Does she sit up supported?  Does she open her mouth when she sees the spoon coming to her mouth?  Does she mimic sucking and snacking noises when she sees other members of the household eating? These are good indicators that your baby might be ready to try solids.  Now, when I say solids, I am  not talking about a neck bone.  I am speaking of rice and apple cereals.  LOL

When my baby was 2 months, I decided to research solid food options.   It was time to decide if I wanted to make my own baby food or choose to feed her commercial brand food products.  There are a great number of products available.  The few that come to mind are Gerber, Beech Nut and Nature's Goodness.  I am not endorsing one product over the other.  They have NOT paid me to endorse any of them.  I am just giving you a few examples.

I chose Gerber Stage 1 to introduce solid foods.  The price for the baby food is affordable and within our budget.  The Stage 1 food comes in the form of a 2 pack and costs under $1.00.

We begin with Breakfast (formula or breast milk-it's clearly up to you) and a jar of fruit.  I would highly recommend sticking with ONE ingredient  when beginning to introduce your baby to solids.

For instance, start her off with Rice Cereal mixed with Formula, Breast Milk or Water.  Try this for a week or so and pay close attention to how she reacts to the food.   Then the next week, try another ingredient like Apple sauce.  I started her off with one ingredient fruits.  She's 5 months old now and has been introduced to Applesauce, Bananas, Pears and Peaches.

I haven't introduced the Prunes to her yet.  For Lunch, she has squash or sweet potatoes.  For Dinner she has Vegetables.  Peas, Green Beans or Carrots.  She has ZERO interest in the green stuff.  I've tried.  She is NOT having it.  Needless to say, I am slowly but, surely trying to mix it in with a little cereal to mask the taste.  She knows the difference.  LOL.

The Gerber Website HERE is a great resource tool to begin your search for narrowing down your decisions on how to start the journey of feeing your baby.  Good Luck with whatever choice you decide and always remember, there are no right or wrong ways to choose.  Go with your heart and do your research.

This helpful tool HERE will allow you to custom design your feeding menu tailored to your baby's age and more.

Please, be sure to leave your feedback on what you have decided to choose for feeding your baby.

Grooming Preschoolers! DO as I DO

DJ usually gets himself dressed in the morning and has been 'grooming' himself more and more and paying attention to the details. Today I couldn't resist taking this photo because only a mother would recognize exactly what he's doing! When I brush his hair, I always hold the top of his head or his forehead. Come on now, admit it, I am not the only momma that does this. HahHa. I walked past his bathroom and busted up laughing. He's holding the top of his head while brushing his hair! HaHa! Go on DJ! That is just too cute. You're  making momma proud!

Migraines that will make you call on Jesus!

Hello Everyone. Has anyone ever experienced a massive migraine? One that goes from one side of the head to the other and down to your neck? I had one last night that worried even my husband who NEVER gets worried or scared about anything.

I called my doctor this morning and she said it may be connected to my cycle regulating itself (this is my first full cycle with cramps and everything since Gracen was born--TMI, TMI). Man oh Man that was so scary, I was afraid to go to sleep last night. I kept thinking I would die in my sleep. Yes, I'm a bit of a drama queen when it comes to pain but, still.

My husband gave me 2 Alleve tablets and when I woke up, it was 7am. Sweet Gracen slept all night OR maybe she woke up and I didn't hear her? LOL-----

Update: I'm all better but, that was the scariest feeling ever.  The migraine was so serious, I was calling on Jesus and everything! HaHa! Man, I'm a wimp.

I just did a quick google search and found this link. A few recommendations to help curb migraines are:

  • Exercise, sleep, sexual activity
I'll let you figure out which one my husband will probably co-sign with.  HaHa!----Ya'll pray for me and my physical health.  I need to slow down and take care of myself.  Last night was a huge eye opener that I really need to take care of myself.  If I die, what will my family do without me?  Here I go again.  Let me go and call on Jesus again.  Bye!
Question: Has anyone else ever experienced migraines? Are they regular? What do you do to get through them? Please explain. Thanks.

Do you eat the ends of the bread?

Do you eat the ends/heels/butt of the bread? Yes or No.

My answer: NO! I REFUSE to eat the ends of the bread. My husband loves the ends of the bread and gets annoyed if I throw out the bread bag with the ends in it. We have 3 bags of bread on the counter with ends in them. I'm so tempted to trash them. He better eat them before sundown or they're out of here!

BEST PRICES FOR DIAPERS-RESEARCH AND FEEDBACK!

What's the best way to figure out if I'm getting the BEST deal on diapers?
Is this a great price? I haven't ventured into buying bulk boxes yet.
I've been buying the jumbo packs for $8 at Walmart.
I've probably been wasting money.
How do you figure out the best prices for diapers?

YOUNGEST or OLDEST aged friend

At your age, what is the YOUNGEST and OLDEST aged friend you have?  For instance, I am 39.  My really great friend is in her early 20's.  My older friend is in her 60's (she won't confirm the actual number-imma fight her--LOL) ---I NEVER would have thought I would connect with someone this young or old.  AGE is really just a number. They are very awesome and encouraging friend and we learn a great deal from each other.  So, to those people out there with potential friends don't rule out someone because of their age.  What are your thoughts?  What is your YOUNGEST or OLDEST aged friend.  What do you share in common?

random acts of kindness

We are new to the area and I was trying to find our local post office. I got very frustrated because my husband kept telling me it's on our street just keep driving because he doesn't know the address. I have two kids in the car, I can't just keep driving and driving what is the landmark?  HE wasn't sure. On my way back into our housing development, I see a neighbor approaching the gate. I flag him down to ask where the post office was, he began to tell me and mentioned it's hard to see because it's sort of hidden and I might pass it, he said hey, it's out of my way but, follow me, I will show you where it is.
WOW!!! This guy took time out of his day to show me where the post office was. No wonder, I missed this place, it really is hidden in the back and there's only one little sign that says US Postal Service. LOL.
He pointed to the building then made a uturn at the light and kept on going. I didn't get a chance to get his name or find out where he lived here in the development. I was very grateful and I'm planning to do something random and nice for the next opportunity that possibly comes my way.
p.s. Ok, I told my friend the story and she said what if he was crazy and led me somewhere else.
UMMMMMM!!!! thanks a lot. i'm totally freaked out now. i didn't even think of that but, she's right. you never know. i would like to believe there are still nice people in this world.

Talk to me NOT my kids!

Am I the only mother on this planet that cannot stand when people talk to me THROUGH my kids? For instance: Gracen and I went to the market this morning. She wore this outfit and we were strolling through the aisles when a woman (in her 60's) approached the cart.

I'm not sure if I've mentioned that I really get a bit on edge when strangers approach me when I have my kids with me. It's always something. Either they want to touch your kids or offer them candy or unsolicited advice.

She asked what her name was and I told her and then she bends down and says to Gracen: Look at you all dressed up like a little lady. What are you doing with shoes on? Doesn't mommy know babies don't need shoes until they're walking? And all those bows must be hurting your head.

Then she just walks off. I'm standing there like HUH??????? Are you kidding me? Was all of that necessary? Really?

Question: has anyone ever talked to you through your kids? Please, share. (I'm typing from my phone sorry for the grammar and typos)

Questions for Open Adoption Families

I am watching this Open Adoption Show on TV.  There are a million questions swirling around in my head.  I am wondering if I have any readers that are involved in an open adoption that would be willing to answer my questions in the comment box OR on email.  Here goes:

1.  Why did you choose to be involved in an open adoption?

2.  Do you regret your decision?

3.  What are some pros and cons regarding an open adoption?

4.   Are your kids aware that they are adopted?  Who told them?

5.    Do you believe the 'adopted' child should be YOUNGER or OLDER than your current children?

6.  How long have you been involved in this open adoption?

I have more questions but, I have to go and finish up some things.  I will be back to write more but, in the meantime if anyone would like to respond, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you.

5 year old birthday parties

DJ will be turning 5 this month. Can you believe it?  WOW! is right.

He has proudly announced what he wants for his birthday.

He wants a PSP and a DS.

He has obviously bumped his head.

His reasoning?  His friend (3 years old) and cousin (12 years old) has a PSP and a DS.

DJ better stop playing.

Since we're new to the area, we are going to have a very low key party for him.  His favorite place is Chuck E. Cheese maybe we will go there and have a birthday cake with a bucket load of tokens for him to go crazy with.

Question:  How did you celebrate your child's 5th birthday?

Baby Walkers!

I scored this walker from craigslist for $6. It was in perfect condition. I've been needing a device to help with transporting Gracen around the house instead of holding her under my arms all the time! Darrin comes home and says wow, that's a cute baby BUT that's the ugliest walker I've ever seen! Hahah!! Gotta love him.

The crease on the crossword is WRONG-Stand by your man!

My husband loves to do the crossword puzzles everyday. He HATES when the placement of the puzzle is on the crease. I seriously don't understand what the problem is but, he does and he feels some type of way about it. So for that, I'll be upset for him too.

To the local newspaper, please STOP putting the puzzle on the crease.

See? I know how to stand by my man!

Where is Tanyetta? Is she still blogging? What's really going on?-Relocation to Pensacola, FL

Hello to all of our friends and family.  This is a very LONG and OVERDUE greeting and update.  I am running low on time so I will be sure to type as much as I can and try to catch up and update you as I go along on my blogging journey.

Here's a rundown of what has happened with our family in the past year.

Here goes:

January 2009
My husband received a promotion and subsequently military orders to change duty stations.  The three places of choice:
Mississippi, Yuma Arizona, Pensacola Florida
We chose Pensacola Florida

February 2009
Husband sent to the East Cost (Virginia) for 3 weeks of training.

April 2009
My friends Kelli and Brianna hosted a fabulous baby shower.

May 2009
My friend Kristi along with our faith, family and friends group hosted another fabulous baby shower.
Gave birth to baby girl Gracen

June 2009
Danyelle announces that she would like to remain in California to try and make it on her own.  I breakdown and find it hard to accept but, realizes it is the best decision for everyone.

July-August 2009
Our family decides it would be best that I along with the kids (Darrin and Gracen) move to my in laws home in Newark, NJ while Darrin (daddy) prepares for moving across country.  I'm sure it would have been a really great adventure with driving across country with two little ones in the car, it made more sense to fly with the kids while Darrin drove from California to Florida.  He made it to Florida safe and soundly in 2 days flat.

September 2009
Danyelle flies in to NJ to celebrate her 22nd birthday with all of our family and friends.  The event was a blast!
Darrin also flew in to surprise his mom and dad for the event.  What a great time for everyone.

We also requested the pastor to the event to have a family dedication over our children.
It was a magnificent time.

October 2009
We are finally reunited and move to our new home in Pensacola.  There are BOXES everywhere.  Just when you think there's progress, ANOTHER box shows up.  I know, I know, take it one box at a time.

Thank you everyone for your love, support, prayers, generosity and kindness during this transition time.  We could not have made it through these past few months without our family taking us in and pretty much spoiling me and the kids tremendously.  While I very much miss everyone back home in New Jersey, our family has an amazing adventure ahead of us as we embark on this journey living on the East Coast in Pensacola, Florida.

We are very NEW to this area.  We don't have any friends or family in the area as with all of our military moves but, trust and believe we will be just fine.

I am planning to do more posts to breakdown a lot of events that have taken place.  Hopefuly I will be able to get to it.  In the meantime, we are taking each day as it comes and trying to get through all these moving boxes.  This is a very nice area and Danyelle will be contributing to the blog from California.

I am just asking that everyone please pray for me.  This is so hard dealing with our first born being out there in this crazy world all on her own but, I know it's going to be OK because this is what we have prepared her for.  Darrin thinks it's great and couldn't be more excited for her.  It's just me tripping I know!  LOL

As you can see, Gracen and Darrin have made a great group of friends already.

Things are coming along just fine!

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time of transition.  As you can imagine, my time dedicated to blogging has been reduced but, I am trying my best to get back in the swing of things.

What's going on with you?????

Huggies Little Movers

Remember this?

Gracen was on the move with places to go!

Huggies contacted me after they saw her video and wanted me to try a sample of their new diaper designed exclusively for Babies on the Go.

Product Details:

New Huggies Little Movers Diapers are shaped to move, featuiring a revolutionary design and technology that allows little ones to move, crawl and scoot.

As you can see on the video, Gracen is a mover and a shaker.  I'm on a mission to find a diaper that keeps my baby dry during their daily activities.

When I first tried the diaper, I thoroughly inspected the diaper BEFORE I attempted to use the diaper.  I am very serious about a diaper that will keep my baby clean and dry and will not leak especially at night.

Here are some very important details about the diapers:

The New Huggies Little Movers Diapers come in four sizes, from Size 3 (16-28 lbs) through Size 6 (over 35 lbs)
Suggested retail price* of $9.99 for a Jumbo Pack
Available nationwide at retail outlets  where diapers are sold
Visit http://www.huggies.com/littlemovers for more information
Follow @Huggies on Twitter for a chance to receive a free package of diapers, and check out the hashtag #littlemovers to keep up on the conversation
*=Actual price depends on the retailer and geographic location

The diapers were a success.  I am very pleased with the product and would highly recommend you take a chance with these diapers.  My major concern with diapers are the "perfume" smell that some diapers give off,  luckily this brand of diapers were unscented and kept my baby dry.

It also worked perfectly during the night where most of the leakage will usually occur.  The lowest price I've found on this package was at Walmart for $8.99 and I had a $3.00 off coupon which made for a SWEET deal.

Good luck on your journey to find a diaper that will suit your needs and if you are open to trying a diaper, I would suggest you try the Little Movers by Huggies Brand.

Please note:  Huggies sent me a package of diapers to try out and review on my blog.  I didn't receive any monetary compensation for this product.  This post is based on my thoughts and opinion of the product.  If you're inclined to try them out, I would like to believe that you will not be disappointed.

They took my Whoop Ash!

Remember Whoop Ash?
Of course you do, I pretty much told all of my family and friends about this great product.

Guess what happened to me at the airport during my trip from NJ to Florida? I didn't realize there was an ounce restriction on what you can bring in your carry on.

Since I bring my jar of Whoop Ash everywhere with me, the jar was in my diaper bag and the TSA confiscated my jar of Whoop Ash! I was HORRIFIED! I even begged them to reconsider. No dice! Ugh! I am going to write to the company and ask that they manufacuter travel sizes.

I was so upset I wanted to Whoop some Ash up in there but, remembered Jail Time is NOT cute!  LOL

Question: Have you ever had anything confiscated at the airport? If so, what was it?

Inspirational Words from Pastor Zachary Elliott

Grilled Cheese

My wife is a vegetarian which is wonderful when we go to a steak house because she’s a really cheap date. My meal could cost $55.00 and hers would cost $9.00. It’s great at fancy restaurants but it’s not great when we go to, let’s just call it, MyBurger Place.

I don’t know why but I always seem to lose my temper when I go to MyBurger Place and try to order my wife’s meal. I just don’t understand how it can be so difficult to make a grilled cheese sandwich.

Ordering at the drive through typically sounds something like this: They say, “Hello, welcome to MyBurger Place. May I take your order please?” I say, “Yes, I would like a cheeseburger plain with no meat, just cheese. Like a grilled cheese sandwich.” They say, “You want no meat on your cheeseburger?” I say, “Yes. No meat. Make it like a grilled cheese. Just bun and cheese.” They say, “Like a grilled cheese with no meat?” I say, “Yes, like a grilled cheese!” They say, “Thank you, please pull forward to the second window.”

After I place my order, a typical trip to MyBurger Place will also include three trips back into the restaurant to have them fix my order. In my bag I usually find one made to be a plain cheeseburger, one will be cheese and all the toppings, one will be just cheese but not melted…. It should go without saying that by the time I park my mini-van and head back into MyBurger Place I am getting pretty steamed. I mean, How Hard Is It?

About this time my lovely wife looks at me and reminds me to be nice to the poor teller who can’t figure out what a grilled cheese is and how on earth you make one. I have to admit that it takes some extreme self control on my part to avoid completely losing my cool. I am reminded of a verse that says, “He who guards his lips guards his life, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin.” (Proverbs 13:3)

I’ll be honest with you, I don’t want to come to ruin over a grilled cheese sandwich. There are times when I have to remind myself that my words and my actions have a powerful influence. I have to remind myself that my words can guard my life or bring me to ruin. And besides, it’s just a sandwich. People are much more valuable.
