Am I the only mother on this planet that cannot stand when people talk to me THROUGH my kids? For instance: Gracen and I went to the market this morning. She wore this outfit and we were strolling through the aisles when a woman (in her 60's) approached the cart.
I'm not sure if I've mentioned that I really get a bit on edge when strangers approach me when I have my kids with me. It's always something. Either they want to touch your kids or offer them candy or unsolicited advice.
She asked what her name was and I told her and then she bends down and says to Gracen: Look at you all dressed up like a little lady. What are you doing with shoes on? Doesn't mommy know babies don't need shoes until they're walking? And all those bows must be hurting your head.
Then she just walks off. I'm standing there like HUH??????? Are you kidding me? Was all of that necessary? Really?
Question: has anyone ever talked to you through your kids? Please, share. (I'm typing from my phone sorry for the grammar and typos)

Seriously I want to find that woman and slap her! Here's my latest stranger advice/comments : "Oh, so you DON'T work?? When are you going back to work? Aren't you going to put your son in pre-school or daycare so you can work?" Then they talk to William and say "you should be in school. Mommy should let you be social". Seriously??? People are giving me a hard time about being a stay-at-home mom?? This has been the trend for me for the past several months. *sighs*
okay, I got so worked up I forgot to tell you that my Gracen looks adorable all dressed up with her shoes on!! Love the barrettes too :)
Yes and I talk right back like, "tell that woman she didn't carry you and birth you so she shouldn't worry about what you are wearing and why." Then look at her, smile, and walk away. Idjits!!! Q
You know....I bet if you start slapping folks they won't offer anymore opinions. I know I'm violent...but still. Or if you want to be more discreet...next time, after they walk away, run over the back of their heels with the cart! hmph old heffa
I like her shoes and her bows!
Woooooo Weeeee!!!! I have no idea what I would have said. Our Sunday lesson was from the book of Proverbs about fools and their tongues. That woman is clearly a fool. I love dressing up my baby...and if she has shoes that match her outfit of the day, best believe I'm putting them on her! Gracen looks adorable and well put together which is a direct reflection of her parents.
I guess I'm lucky, I've never had that happen. I think I'd be put out a bit though with those kinds of comments.
This happens to us so much. I cannot STAND it.
When Mya was about 4 months old we were in the grocery store (by we, I mean me, my husband and Mya). Mya was crying and I was talking to her trying to calm her down. This women says- "oh baby, tell your Nanny that babies need to cry." I almost smacked her. You see a tan baby with a Black woman and a White man who are holding hands the conclusion that you come to is that the woman must be the NANNY? And then you SAY that to the child?
Another time, a woman says to my 3 year old daughter- "Mommy has to put you in school. How else are you going to learn anything." My response was, "If school teaches you to be a disrespectful ass, then I am glad that I homeschooling. Oh, and did I mention that i have a Masters in Education and my 3 year old is probably smarter than you right now?"
Ugh!!! How rude!!! I can't stand people that do that!
LOL. I hate that whether from strangers or people I know. Ugh!
Dare I say, it happens because you can't stand it. ;)
Next time, catch up with them and reply with your comments -- politely and honestly.
Some older folk feel they've earned the right to tell anyone, including strangers, what they think.
PS Diva is a trip!
Gracen looks so adorable. And looks much older. She is growing so fast.
Gracen is a cutie, and looks adorable with her shoes and bows. Keep her in style and dressed regardless what anybody says.
Dang! Tanyetta is back!
yes all the time and I can't stand it. I don't do it. At least I don't think so. The last time someone did that I completely ignored them It was in my fav. fabric store and the lady walked up to the cart touched Ashleigh(YUCK) and proceeded to talk. I heard her asking her what her name was so I totally ignored her. I don't care if she thought I was rude. After all she was not talking to me!!
Thank you everyone for your comments! I LOVE to hear your feedback. Keeps me sane! Oh, Yes! I'm back and trust and believe I have a lot to share. The tricky part is finding time to post it all. One day at a time. One day at a time :)
Kristina you are awesome!
Never happens to me. Gracen is adorable in her outfit.
Hahahaha!!! Why didn't you just swing your bag and smack her on her head accidentally? Oops! Next time this happens, look the person straight in the eye and ask, "Are you trying to tell ME something?"
I seriously HATE when people do that. I think next time someone starts that, you should interrupt and say "Gracen, can you tell the lady...oh wait, you can't tell her anything because you can't talk!"
