Is there a reliable website you check to chart your baby's weight? For instance, how much is a one month old baby normally supposed to weigh at this time?
My baby girl weighs 8 pounds 5 ounces and she's almost one month old (June 7th) should I call Dr. Sears? Seems nearly everyone here in this town thinks the man walks on water. So, maybe I should call him.
Is my baby gaining weight at a proper rate? Should I be feeding her steak and potatoes to plump her up to obese status?
I went to Albertson's today and a woman made a comment that my baby was soooooooooooooooo tiny! Now, my first thought was to say, of course she would look tiny to you. What are you pushing like 3 hunnid pounds? But, noooooooooo I just bit my lip and tried to ignore the comment.
First of all, I'm in the self checkout line trying to get a few things to be on my merry way. She just had to make it her business to stick her head all past me to see my baby.
Stuff like this really annoys me.
Her: Oh my she is soooooooooo tiny! How much did she weigh at birth?
Me: 6 pounds Her: Oh my she is soooooooooo tiny!
Me: Really? You think so? Well, how much is she supposed to weigh? How big is she supposed to be? She's only one month old.
Her: Oh, I've always had big babies, my first baby was 7 pounds and my other child was 8 pounds. My babies were just big babies. I just hurried to scan my groceries to get out of the store. I had heard enough.
I gave her a look and decided against telling her what I really thought about her and her 'big' babies. See, that's what I get for even going out in public with my baby. I can hear my grandmother turning in her grave right now. You ain't spose to go out or take your baby out in public until they're like 1 year old or something!
Ok, so, I'm thinking...how much difference is there between a 6 and 7 or 8 pound baby? 2 pounds really makes a HUGE difference?
Some people in general are really annoying me lately. That's why I limit my time out in public. My nerves are just bad. I can't stand annoying people. Always wanna ask questions, always think they know you and they don't. Want to know all about you and yours. Ummm...please move.
I really am beginning to think about dressing my kid up like Michael Jackson does with his kids when they go out in public.
You know...Blanket.[:O]

Please ignore these fools. I am so done with people and their nonsense. She was 6 lbs and she is already past her birth weight so I wouldn't worry, just as long as she is gaining weight. The rate at which she may gain weight depends on her metabolism and all that stuff. But if she is eating normally and you will know what that is then she is fine.
I never approached people whom I did not know commenting on how large, skinny or bald their baby looked. What is with these people?
By the way I am sure you already found it but here. It says 1 -2 lbs a month for the 1st 6 months

She sounds absolutely perfect! 2+ pounds in the first month is a greatweight gain.
LOL! I TOTALLY understand this! My babies were both regular sized babies. And I heard it daily. "Wow hes small"...or my personal fave..."Does your mommy feed you?" {Bitch slapped them with my mind} I think 8 lbs is plenty. If your baby feeds well, and is seeming fine...go with that. Besides, babies tend to even lose a few oz. after a month... I'm sure she is alright. Tell em to go outside, find a pile of rocks and commence to kicking them!
I have never understood why people have to make bullS&*^ comments does noone ever think about the old saying if ya cant say something nice then just shut the F@#$ up
Ok I am so guilty of this, but when I comment on how tiny a baby is I mean it as synonymous to so freaking adorable!! Who doesn't love a tiny baby? I almost always just say oh I just LOVE her lol.
Babies come in a variety of sizes and grow at their own rate girl, if she eats normally I think you are just fine! Mica is tiny too, she just turned 3 and can wear 12 month size pants! Only you know in your heart if she is at the right size for her age, Momma knows best :)
People should just learn to not say anything to the mother of an infant, except "OMG, that is the cutest baby ever!".
Anyway, since you asked and I just happened to have this conversation with a pediatrician I work with just last week, here's what he said. "It's normal for babies to lose weight the first few days after birth and as long as they are back up to their birthweight by 10 days, I don't worry. After that they should gain about an ounce a day." Bottom line, she gained 2 lbs in a month, she's fine.
But personally, I would have told the heifer, "she's petite and hopefully won't have to worry about ending up as big as your fat @ss". But that's just me. LOL
ha ha! We were just talking about this one. Don't forget that my baby is obese now~! LMAO! Dummies!
lol! do it!! baby blanket in the house! except as a girl i think we should call her blanketesha. that's hot.
Gracen is PERFECT! Nothing wrong with her, she's just fine. This lady isn't a doctor, and you simply cannot compare one baby to another. They're all different.
The only thing I've gotten were comments like - my baby was a beast at that age but nothing truly offensive.
BUT next you'll be getting comments on how much she's eating.
Let's not get on those who watch what your baby is eating because they think they are eating too much. You know the FATPHOBICS! I mean mind your business, if my baby wants to eat a whole banana, or a whole thing of pasta pick ups, or chicken sticks, Ima let him. At least he's EATING!!! Greg and I are are naturally thin so we def encourage healthy appetites!
Sorry for ranting on tanyetta.com!
I feel SO MUCH BETTER NOW! Ha!
Actually a 2 lb difference in newborns is quite striking. Almost like comparing a chuihuahua and a great dane imho. How much is she supposed to weigh after a month? Exactly what she weighs when she's a month old. As long as she's gaining, she's good. She'll grow at her own pace.
Oh yeah, some of us that had giant babies are kind of fascinated by babies that are smaller than ours. And we get our fair share of comments too...only not as adoring as the "she's so little" comments are, like when someone asked me (when milk breath was a month old) "How come she's so big?!?!?" My answer? "She was born that way." I didn't let those comments bother me though - I was just happy to have a healthy baby and not be pregnant anymore.
Ha- people always have things to say no matter what. I used to get people telling me that Joey was MASSIVE and that I was over-feeding him etc. Joey gained ALOT of weight in his first month so I have no idea what babies are "supposed" to weigh. I figure that as long as she is feeding and pee-ing and pooping ok then you have NOTHING to worry about! :-)
