We're at the end of the nap road. This is a harsh truth that I'm not ready to accept fully just yet. There are some days he will nap but, on most days he is NOT trying to hear it.
There are some days, I am just worn out and really really need a nap. What? you thought nap times were for the kids? As if. Hah!
Today was a crazy weather day. I had to get creative for the nap business. As you know, we have a pallet on the floor in our bedroom next to our bedroom. When our little friend comes into our room in the middle of the night, he's supposed to sleep on the pallet. You know how it really goes down. Supposed to and what really happens are two completely opposite things.
I came up with a great idea, I said, let's go camping! I grabbed a bunch of comforters and put them in the hall near our bedroom. I told him if he goes camping with me, daddy will be home by the time we're up from nap time.
At first, this plan was NOT going to work. My son playing and tossed the comforters all over. I decided to walk away and came back to check on him 15 minutes later.
This is what I found. Let the record show, I will be keeping these comforters in the hallway and will continue to run the let's go camping idea in the ground. It just might bank you a few more months on this path of napping!
Wish me luck!
Question: What age did your child(ren) stop taking naps? Are they still napping? How old are they? Any tips on extending the timeline for naps when your kids are clearly OVER them?

Joey stopped napping in February, so he was 32months old. He probably would have continued if I was at home with him during the week because like you say, Mummies need naps as well! However he was going to bed later and later in the evening and was over-tired in the morning so I figured that the cause was the 2 hour nap he was getting at nursery. I figured that as I pay them an absolute fortune to look after him every day, I was entitled to say that I didn't want him to nap anymore. They were fine with that (I would have done it sooner if I had realised it was an option!) and cut his nap slowly so as not to ruin the routine and then on February 1st stopped them completely. There are some days when he does still need a nap and then I just go with it (funnily enough, these days are on the weekend, I get angry if they let him nap at pre-school! LOL!) but the no nap thing has meant that he is in bed between 7 and 8 and I have some "me" time in the evenings to sort out the washing, tidy the kitchen etc.
Like I said, if I were home with him every day he would SO still be napping but the reality is that he has never really needed much sleep so I end up with a hyper little boy at 11pm if I let him nap during the day! ;-)
DD naps at school. On the weekends she doesn't get a nap, but seems to be fine without one on Saturday, but on Sunday, she needs one and so do I. She is 4.
Omari is 3. They take naps at school but I'm told at least twice a week, he will just lay on his cot until wide awake until it's time to get up. On the weekends, I try the nap thing. Like you, I try to be creative too. Sometimes I bribe him by saying we will go to the park after we wake up. I need a nap because he keeps me going. Kids just have way too much energy.
Next time, I'm going to try the camping idea.
My husband takes naps on his days off and on the weekends when he has plans for the evening......LOL
My son still naps and he's going on three in two months. As long as they make them at school, I will continue that process with them. He needs them to keep from wearing himself out somedays.
My kids are 4 and 5 they both still take naps and they really need them too.
I just tell my son when "mommy needs a nap" and he's pretty good about leaving me alone and entertaining himself. :D
Great idea! Whatever works. My son still naps but he is only 14months so its expected. I hope this keeps working for you because the parents need naps too :)
Well, you're getting creative and stretching the nap thing!
sorry but I think DJ may be at the age that he is napped out! I like the comforter idea though! LOL!
My three and a half year old refuses to nap. Some days she will fall asleep for about two hours. On the days she doesn't fall asleep, she ends up falling asleep that afternoon the second we get into the car, or in a shopping cart. The girl passes out in two seconds! It's really weird. Hubby thinks she may be a narco.
I think most kids don't need naps at around 4 but still need a set down tim. Most schools won't give naps starting in kindergarten but continue to offer a rest or nap time even in pre-K 4. That's the rule of thumb I follow.
Dakota took naps until he was almost five. He needed them! And there are some days, when he's Mr. Grumpy, that I still think he needs to lay down for a bit, but those days are long gone.
My son's school stops having the kids nap between 4 and 4 1/2 years of age in order to get them ready for kindergarten which is all day. Trust me, there are days I wish he would take a nap as well or at least have an hour or quiet time..wishful thinking with a 5 year old.

Whenever I watch my niece for my sister after school, she takes a catnap for like 30 minutes and then she gets started on her homework. She's 9 years old. I know they have PE right before school lets out so that might be another reason..
I'm still single with no kiddos. But my best friend's son asked his father last Christmas whether Santa was real or a fake? My friend asked him why he asked. The son said that "Bobbie" (a kid in school) told him Santa was not real. My friend side-stepped this by asking his son how he responded. His son said "I told him he was nuts" And my friend said "Well, theres your answer right there!" So, keep up the "Let's go camping" bit! It should buy plenty of time!!!!:D)
2,3, and 6. They all still nap. The camping thing I must try. Sometimes, we Moms have to resort to trickery!
Jeremiah is 20 months and I am panicking because he has eliminated his afternoon nap and the evening nap seems to be going too! What am I going to DO????
